Welcome back to The Landry Hat's series on the best Dallas Cowboys player to wear every jersey number from No. 0 to No. 99.
After one of the more obvious entries at No. 4 with Dak Prescott, we had a difficult decision to make at No. 5 between Bryan Anger and Dan Bailey, and we've got yet another tough call here at No. 6. But before we get to the big reveal, let's first have a look at the players who've donned the digit for Dallas over the years.
- Donovan Ezeiruaku, DE
- Nick Folk, K
- Chris Jones, P
- Tim Seder, K
- Donovan Wilson, S
- Luis Zendejas, K
If longevity were the only factor at play, the winner here would be punter Chris Jones, who wore the number for a decade from 2011 to 2020 and did his job well. Was he ever the best at his position? No. But you don't keep your job for 10 years if you're not good at it.
That said, though, this is a two-man race—at least for now. Donovan Ezeiruaku, who switched from No. 41 to No. 6 ahead of the 2026 season, could very well end up taking this spot if he continues to progress, but for the time being, Nick Folk and Donovan Wilson are the only real options.
To his credit, Folk is the only player on this list to make a Pro Bowl, doing so as a rookie after the Cowboys took him in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft with the 178th overall pick. In connecting on 26 of 31 field goals and all 53 of his extra-point attempts during that '07 campaign, his 131 points scored were the second-most in a single season in Cowboys history at that time, trailing only the 150 scored by Emmitt Smith in 1995.
Folk has since fallen down the list, but it was an impressive debut campaign nonetheless. His second season was solid as well, as he made 20 of 22 field goals and 42 of 42 PATs, but year three didn't go as smoothly. While he again made every single point-after attempt, he only made 18 of 28 field goals before being released late in the year.
And that's actually one of the reasons we're going to give the nod to Wilson.
Donovan Wilson's best years with the Cowboys came while he was wearing No. 6
A sixth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2019, Wilson began his professional career wearing No. 37, donning that digit for two seasons. But when the NFL changed its jersey policy ahead of the 2021 campaign, he switched to No. 6, which he'd worn during the final few years of his college days at Texas A&M.
The Louisiana native had a solid second season in No. 37, tallying 71 total tackles and 3.5 sacks, but he truly came into his own wearing No. 6.
Now, nobody has ever mistaken Wilson as a great coverage safety, as that's easily the weakest part of his game. But nobody can ever question his overall athleticism, and at his peak, one could say that he was one of the hardest-hitting box safeties in the NFL.
That peak was in 2022, when he recorded a career-high 101 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, a pair of passes defended, and an interception. Two years later, he posted 82 tackles, six tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, five passes defended, and a pick. So, again, his best years with America's Team came while wearing No. 6.
Unfortunately for him and for the Cowboys as a whole, he struggled in 2025, and when Jerry Jones got the chance to draft Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, the writing was on the wall for Wilson. Nevertheless, given a little more longevity and those couple of campaigns in which he had so much success, he gets the nod over Folk.
Other Dallas Cowboys jersey honorees
- No. 0: Well, there's literally only one option here
- No. 1: Quietly one of Dallas' better special teams weapons
- No. 2: He once stood alone in the record books
