Terrell Owens Says Two Cornerbacks Shine

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

Terrell Owens has a Q&A at the Dallas Cowboys main Web site you can find here.
Unfortunately, the questions are a bit weak, but there are some interesting parts I wanted to show here.
Which defensive backs have impressed you?
Owens: Well, obviously the ones we drafted. [Mike] Jenkins looks good and the guy really standing out is Evan Oglesby. He’s been making plays throughout camp. It just shows you the film-work he has put in – obviously not playing a lot (last year), but really learning from the other guys. When guys aren’t on the field due to injuries, those are [...]

Dallas Cowboys Mess With Jay Ratliff’s Comfort Level

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Nose Tackle Jay Ratliff was a huge surprise for the Dallas Cowboys last season. The undersized lineman should have made the Pro Bowl.
But now, the Cowboys look to be moving him to defensive end. Under-performing Marcus Spears has been shifted to nose tackle.
At face value the move seems to make sense. But why fiddle with a recipe that tastes good already? Ratliff played nose tackle all season. Spears should be benched as far as I am concerned. The Cowboys needed to shop him to a new team for some draft picks. Ratliff believes the move is permanent and that concerns [...]

The Attacks From Bad Teams Keep Coming

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 23 Comments

Another blogger for an awful team is criticizing the Dallas Cowboys and their fans. Now, we’re “wolverines” and we “travel in packs” to fight our harsh critics. Gee, isn’t that what champions do? Isn’t that what strong teams do?
Listen, I am sorry that the Carolina Panthers have fallen from grace with such speed that you would have missed their success in a blink of an eye, but that has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys.
To argue that Steve Smith has a chance to become one, if not the one, best receiver the NFL has ever seen is just plain [...]

Emmitt Smith’s Lack Of English Gets Him Demoted

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Poor Emmitt Smith. ESPN decided to can Smith from appearing on the NFL Countdown program, and will replace him with the much more well-spoken former player, Cris Carter. ESPN did not entirely ditch Smith; he will appear on a few shows.
Smith’s announcing skills have troubled so many folks that he even has become a topic on Yahoo Answers!
The infamous “sharp as a whistle” comment is just one of hundreds Smith made in his short career as an announcer. Hey, being a sports announcer on television is not easy. There is a lot of pressure and ego involved in it. But [...]

Observations of Dallas Cowboys Training Camp

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

I wanted to point you guys toward another blog that has the lucky opportunity of attending training camp for the Dallas Cowboys. Dave “Grizz” Halprin has been for several days now blogging his first-hand observations of the Cowboys, and he is providing some great stuff to discuss here. You can view his blog here.
The Landry Hat is excited to announce that  “Grizz”  over at BloggingtheBoys has agreed to do a question and answer about his experiences at camp and his observations, which should prove valuable to us fans to get an inside look at how he believes the team will [...]

Miami Dolphins Are Ridiculous

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly going to sign wide receiver Terry Glenn, who was cut by the Dallas Cowboys this week. Hey, I am happy that the guy gets to play if he really wants to, but how ridiculous are the Miami Dolphins becoming with signing former Cowboys and hiring most of its coaching staff?
I mean, seriously, this is getting downright obvious. The Miami Dolphins are truly the Dallas Dolphins. Or the South Florida Cowboys. Hashmarks has the report here. Some of us joked that Miami would likely sign Glenn, but it really happened. Hashmarks goes easy on the South [...]

Terence Newman Setback Poses Big Problem For Dallas Cowboys

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 20 Comments

Terence Newman will miss practice for three weeks to allow his groin injury to heal. Newman got an MRI today and it revealed what Coach Wade Phillips described as a significant injury.
Phillips expressed concern that his lack of practice will slow progress in the nickel packages, one of the big problems for the Cowboys last season. One positive is that the Cowboys are seeing good results from all of their cornerbacks, including Adam Jones, Orlando Scandrick and Even Ogelsby.
But there is no way getting out of saying this injury hasn’t struck a bit of fear into the coaching staff. Newman [...]

Mike Jenkins Inked for 5 Years

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

First-round draft pick Mike Jenkins signed a lucrative rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. The cornerback, who will likely be the Cowboys back-up cornerback, will earn $9.725 million over five years. Jenkins plans to wear Roy Williams’ old number 31.
The only rookie left to sign is running back Felix Jones.
Rookie Felix Jones inked a five year deal for $10.525 million.

Terence Newman is Fine

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Dallas Cowboys corner Terence Newman got tangled with a wide receiver yesterday and tweaked his groin area during practice. Cowboys officials say the star cornerback is fine, but he was kept from practicing yesterday as a precaution.
This injury is not nearly as difficult to recover from than what Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel sustained earlier this week. Samuel injured his hamstring and might need an MRI soon. Not good for Eagles fans. Couple Samuel’s setback with Donovan McNabb’s injured throwing shoulder, and the Eagles are staring at trouble once again.
In other Cowboys news, apparently, Sam Hurd and Miles Austin are outplaying [...]
