Cowboys fans revel as Eagles' Jalen Hurts criticism reaches new low in Philly

Drama is always fun when it's not your team!

The Dallas Cowboys and their fanbase haven't had too much fun at the Philadelphia Eagles' expense over the last couple of years. Their NFC East counterpart has been a perennial power in the conference and league at large, even winning a Super Bowl just over a year ago.

But the tide is slowly starting to turn. The Cowboys had a productive offseason and look to have, at least on paper and in part, fixed their defensive issues. And the Eagles, who once looked like a juggernaut, are a factory for drama and second-guessing. The Philly media is eating the team alive.

Jalen Hurts, as he always seems to be, is at the center of the discourse for why the Eagles aren't performing up to snuff. A recent ESPN piece ripped Hurts to shreds and left a lot of the onus on him. And another negative Hurts report now has Dallas fans reveling as the criticism reaches new heights.

Local Philadelphia sportswriter Jeff McLane recently spoke with a team source about what the future may hold for Hurts with the Eagles, and it sounds like every option is on the table. Including, as McLane alluded to, cutting ties with Hurts if he can't meet their performance expectations.

"He knows this is the last year of his guaranteed money,'" an Eagles source told McLane. 'He knows the cat’s out on some of his baggage. You got to be able to produce. You can’t be near the bottom of the league in passing two years in a row with the amount of talent that we have. It’s not acceptable."

Philadelphia get rid of a Super Bowl-winning quarterback is ostensibly good news for Dallas. But in reality, both the Cowboys and their fans know that the Eagles weren't winning because of Hurts, but rather, in spite of him, at least most of the time.

Hurts is a fine quarterback, but he doesn't hold a candle to Dak Prescott, and both Jaxson Dart and Jayden Daniels are right on his heels as the second-best quarterback in the NFC East, if Daniels hasn't surpassed him already. It's hard to win without an elite, or at least very good, quarterback.

The A.J. Brown drama has gone on so long that it is probably just white noise in the building in Philadelphia at this point. But a new element of drama that circulates around Hurts is good news for a Cowboys team looking to make a leap and take back over the division next season.

Things are at an all-time low in Eagles country right now, and it's difficult not to revel in that as a Dallas fan. Jerry Jones sure loves his drama, but at least you always know where you stand with him. It seems like Hurts and Philadelphia have absolutely no clue what to do here, and the pressure is on.
