The longer the A.J. Brown trade saga drags out, the more likely he is to be traded at the start of June. And if he gets traded on June 1, that's the best-case scenario for the Dallas Cowboys. Anything that weakens the Philadelphia Eagles will give Dallas a better shot at re-claiming the NFC East throne.
It appears that he's on the precipice of getting dealt. Just a day after Adam Schefter reported that a deal sending Brown to New England is "likely", we got another major answer on his future, as Ian Rapoport reported that he's not expected to attend Eagles' offseason workouts, which begin today.
The 28-year-old has been floated in trade talks for months now, and Cowboys fans have been laughing at the drama that Brown has stirred up. Howie Roseman has refused to trade him until things changed a few weeks ago, but they've been handling it so poorly it's making Jerry Jones look genius.
The sooner A.J. Brown gets traded, the better for the Dallas Cowboys
We've seen the Cowboys handle contract situations or trade requests poorly. George Pickens still hasn't landed a long-term deal. Brandon Aubrey was only extended yesterday. But Dallas has been willing to trade guys when they know it won't work, their rivals are tying themselves to a sinking ship.
Kevin Patullo was such a horrible OC that the three-time All-Pro could not bear playing in his offense. Not only was the system gimmicky, but part of why Philadelphia's offense looked like a shell of itself is that Jalen Hurts basically refused to look Brown's way, even though he's his supposed top target.
Something worth noting is that these early offseason programs are voluntary, not mandatory, but Brown's absence still speaks volumes. June, the same date when his cap hit would be cut in half if he's traded, is the same date on which these voluntary NFL offseason activities become mandatory.
If he wanted to mend things with the team, he'd be participating, but since he knows what's about to transpire, he isn't wasting his time. But since the Eagles have a talented WR room even without him, a team like the Patriots will have more use for him as they look to surround Drake Maye with elite pass-catchers.
The Cowboys haven't won the NFC East since 2023, so once Brown is traded, their chances of breaking that streak will increase. The Eagles losing any sort of talent is good for the Cowboys, but knowing that their best offensive player not named Saquon Barkley is about to be dealt is just amazing.
We now know for sure that the domino will fall, even if it isn't official just yet, but Cowboys fans are getting ready for some revenge after all the post-Parsons ridicule.
