Von Miller's jersey tease wasn't even his biggest Cowboys hint

And just like that, the Dallas Cowboys are interesting again. The team is currently on its annual summer break before training camp later this month, so it's been quiet on the Dallas front for a while.

That changed on Wednesday when future Hall of Fame pass rusher Von Miller shared a photo of himself in a Cowboys jersey on Instagram, where he has a cool 2 million followers. As of this writing, no signing has been reported or announced, but Miller has everyone waiting for the other shoe to drop.

As intriguing as the jersey tease was, Miller actually dropped an even bigger hint a couple of days earlier in an interview with RJ Ochoa of Blogging The Boys. Ochoa asked Miller upfront if he'd want to play for the Cowboys. His answer:

"You know what, it would be great to be a Dallas Cowboy. ... I grew up here in Dallas. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys. If I played for the Dallas Cowboys this year, I'd only have to drive 20 minutes to work. This would be the first time my mom and dad don't have to fly to every single game."

"My mom has been to every single game that I've ever played in, and she'll be able to drive to all the home games. I got so many family members here. My kids are here. My family is here, girlfriend is here. Everybody’s here.

It’d just be easy to work it out, so you never really know. ... We talked about that magnetic field in College Station. Maybe the magnetic field here in Dallas will get me there. would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and it'd be amazing."

So, what exactly is Jerry Jones waiting for?

Von Miller leaves no doubt about wanting to play for the Dallas Cowboys

Instagram stories like the one Miller posted are inherently ambiguous. It could have been a troll or simply a way to stir up attention. The Cowboys are arguably the biggest brand in sports and are constantly used as fuel for trade rumors and free-agent speculation. We all know how this works.

But after hearing Miller openly say he'd love to play for Dallas, it's harder to dismiss as harmless fun. Does it mean a signing is imminent? No, but it does suggest that there may be some truth behind the tease.

Miller has been circled as a logical Dallas target in the past. The Cowboys had chances to sign him in 2022 and again in 2025, but they lost out to the Bills and, later, the rival Commanders.

With the seven-time All-Pro now openly campaigning to play for Dallas, Jerry and Stephen Jones have every reason to pick up the phone.

The pass rush could use a veteran presence to complement Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and Malachi Lawrence. There may not be a better mentor for Ezeiruaku and Lawrence, whom the Cowboys are counting on to lead their pass rush for years to come, and Miller could fill a similar role to the one Jadeveon Clowney played last season, only he'd benefit from a stronger supporting cast.

Nobody's saying the 37-year-old would transform the defense. But you can't put a price on Miller's pedigree. If you're handing out 20-25 snaps a game, who would you rather have: Sam Williams, James Houston, Marist Liufau, Charles Snowden, or Von freaking Miller?

That's what we thought.
