While the Dallas Cowboys are working their way through what has become an exciting training camp, one of the team’s former defenders is looking for a new team. Veteran corner Trevon Diggs, who starred in Dallas for six seasons before being released last year, is hoping to land with a team for the 2026 season.
That desire could land Diggs on the other side of a Cowboys rivalry, as it was reported on Sunday that the corner had a tryout for the Detroit Lions. Both Dallas and Detroit have been NFC contenders in recent years, so a bit of a rivalry has brewed between the two franchises.
If Diggs ultimately signs with Detroit, he will switch sides, and have the opportunity to serve Dallas some revenge.

Dallas has played Detroit in each of the last four seasons, with the teams splitting those games. The Cowboys won the first two matchups, but the 2023 win had a controversial ending that Detroit fans are still mad about. The Lions responded by dominating the last two meetings, scoring over 40 in both games.
In the 2024 matchup, which Detroit won 47-9, they were accused of running up the score and trying to disrespect the Cowboys in Dallas. The Lions were pulling out trick plays with the game already out of hand, making it clear that this was a rivalry game. Detroit adding Diggs to its roster would add another layer to the two teams’ recent history.
The two-time Pro Bowler established himself as one of the league’s best play-making corners during his time in Dallas, recording 20 interceptions in 66 games. Incredibly, 11 of those INTs came in Diggs' second season, and it seemed like he was poised to gave a great career with America's Team.
The Cowboys did what any team would and rewarded Diggs with an extension that reflected an evolved cornerback market. A five-year, $97 million deal with a max value of $104 million and $42.3 million guaranteed.
Knee injuries derailed Trevon Diggs' once-promising career
Unfortunately, Diggs never reached the heights of his 2021 campaign. A torn ACL wiped out all but two games of his 2023 season, and he landed on season-ending IR the following year due to a cartilage issue.
His play declined significantly last season, and it eventually became clear that his relationship with the franchise had run its course. That came to a head when Diggs disobeyed Brian Schottenheimer's requirement for the team to fly home together after its Christmas Day game in Washington.
The Cowboys swiftly released Diggs, and his first move was to join another one of Dallas' rivals, the Green Bay Packers. He played one regular-season game and one postseason game with Green Bay, then headed back to free agency, where he is now.
Only turning 28 in September, Diggs is determined to prove he can get back to his best.
