Imagine telling someone in 2021 that both Stefon Diggs and Trevon Diggs would still be free agents in August of 2026. They'd think you were genuinely crazy. But it goes to show you how fast time flies in the NFL world, especially since the younger Diggs was released by the Dallas Cowboys last year.
Between the two, it was more surprising to see Stefon Diggs still available in free agency at this point in the summer, but his extended look in free agency just ended. After months of speculation, the rival Washington Commanders are officially signing Diggs.
Instead of turning to the NFL landmine that is Brandon Aiyuk, the Commanders are banking on the four-time Pro Bowler to solve their receiver woes behind Terry McLaurin. But Dallas' former cornerback might be wishing right now that the opportunity to return home would be his as well.
The Cowboys' archrival signed Stefon Diggs, but not Trevon Diggs
It would be very little brother of Trevon to be jealous of Stefon right about now, but their CB room is much stronger than their WR room. Not to mention, the 32-year-old will be playing for Dan Quinn, who was the DC of the Cowboys back when his little brother was having the best seasons of his career.
The veteran wideout has preached all offseason that he wants to return home, and now he'll get the opportunity he was asking for. The Diggs brothers were born and raised in the DMV, went to high school in Maryland, and Stefon played for the Terps in college. How's that for a full-circle moment?
The All-Pro cornerback was briefly floated as a possibility for Washington earlier this offseason, but that smoke never amounted to anything. But now there's an obvious connection for them to sign him. Between the homecoming, his brother signing there, and Quinn being the coach, it's a match made in heaven for Trevon.
The 27-year-old has been plagued by knee injuries in recent seasons and now looks like a shell of the player he was a half-decade ago. He's appeared in 10 games just once since 2022, but maybe a reunion with the man who unlocked his talent the first time around would help him turn back the clock.
It's an idea Washington may consider now that they have Stefon under contract, but given how Diggs looked in coverage last season, it's no surprise Quinn hasn't rushed the Commanders' front office to sign him.
