The Dallas Cowboys have seemingly forgotten what a fast start is. The New York Giants put the ball in Mike McCarthy's court to start Thursday night's game and the offense went three and out in the blink of an eye.

Despite the running game not being able to get anything going, McCarthy called two inside handoffs right off the bat. CeeDee Lamb slipped on his route on 3rd-and-5 and the Cowboys punted. Suffice it to say that McCarthy is already testing Cowboys fans' patience, but it was a player on defense that drew the most ire from the fan base.

With Caelen Carson out with a shoulder injury, Andrew Booth got the start at cornerback opposite Trevon Diggs. Acquired from the Vikings in a rare preseason trade, Booth was a healthy scratch for the first two games.

The Giants smartly went after Booth early. Raw and eager to make a play, Booth got crossed up on a hesitation route from rookie phenom Malik Nabers. It wasn't the filthiest route you'll ever see, but it still sent Booth into another dimension.

The Cowboys unfortunately do not have the luxury to bench Booth. However, Mike Zimmer made a quick adjustment as Trevon Diggs is now following Nabers. The move had to be done. Nabers might be a rookie, but he already looks the part of a legit No. 1 receiver.

Entering Thursday night, Nabers ranked second in the NFL with 24 catches, fifth with 271 receiving yards, first with 37 targets and tied for first with three touchdown catches, per Pro Football Reference. He deserves CB1 attention. Booth is arguably fifth in the CB pecking order.

Based on Booth's first rep against Nabers, it's clear he should be lined up against the likes of Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt.

Booth has since rebounded to make two open-field tackles, but Zimmer will be keeping a close eye on the former second-round pick from here on out. If Booth has another slip-up, it might be time for Israel Mukuamu to get some reps at cornerback.
