Cowboys inactives list for Thursday Night Football game against Giants
By Jerry Trotta
All of the statistics favor the Dallas Cowboys for tonight's game. Dak Prescott has won 12 straight games against the New York Giants, while Daniel Jones is 1-12 in primetime in his career and the Giants haven't won on Thursday in nine years.
This is very much a fork-in-the-road game for the Cowboys. Franchise legend Troy Aikman senses an "uneasiness" in the locker room. Hard to disagree with Aikman after last week's antics, which culminated in CeeDee Lamb exploding on Prescott on the sideline then ghosting the media.
Lamb apologized to the media this week and took full accountability. He said he was disappointed with how he handled himself in Sunday's loss. A big game for Prescott and Lamb would do wonders for Dallas' confidence, but it's really the defense that needs to step up.
The Giants present a potential get-right game for Mike Zimmer's group, but it could be down a few important players. Listed as doubtful on Wednesday, rookie cornerback Caelen Carson and safety Markquese Bell will not play.
Cowboys inactives
- Caelen Carson
- Markquese Bell
- Tyrus Wheat
- Trey Lance
- John Stephens Jr.
- Ryan Flournoy
- Matt Waletzko
With Carson out, the Cowboys elevated CB Amani Oruwariye for tonight’s game. A former fifth-round pick of the Lions, Oruwariye signed to the practice squad after All-Pro DaRon Bland underwent foot surgery. He has nine career interceptions, but look for Andrew Booth, whom Dallas acquired in a trade with the Vikings during preseason, to start in place of Carson.
The Cowboys have also elevated DE Carl Lawson from the practice squad. This is Lawson's second promotion, meaning he has one left before he must be signed to the active roster. Lawson made his debut last week, but with Dallas trailing for most of the game he didn't get many snaps. That could change tonight if the Cowboys establish an early lead.
Giants inactives
- Adoree Jackson
- Dru Phillips
- QB Tommy DeVito (3rd QB)
- S Anthony Johnson
- OLB Benton Whitley
- OLB Boogie Basham
- G Jake Kubas
The Giants have ruled out cornerbacks Adoree Jackson and Dru Phillips, who are their top slot corners. Meanwhile, 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks has a 47.2 PFF coverage grade this season while allowing 14.1 yards per reception and a 121.9 passer rating when targeted, per Pro Football Focus. That should mean good news for CeeDee Lamb and Dallas' passing attack.
