The Dallas Cowboys have stumbled out of the gate to a 1-2 start in 2024, as an encouraging with against the Cleveland Browns was followed by two incredibly concerning home losses against the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens. The heat is well and truly on for Mike McCarthy.

The vibes are horrendous at the moment, as Dak Prescott has been unable to carry the team on his right arm. The defense has been getting gashed, and the energy looks low. Even some of the franchise legends that will normally stump for the Cowboys come hell or high water are fleeing the ship.

Appearing on ESPN, Cowboys legend and Monday Night Football broadcast Troy Aikman is hinting that there are some dark storm clouds gathering over this franchise. If they don't start winning some games, Aikman believes their issues will only snowball and get worse.

"I think that, I just sense that there's some uneasiness within the locker room," Aikman said, via Pardon The Interruption on Wednesday. It just feels like there's some rumblings and another loss could just create more issues internally...As we know, they definitely need a win."

While Prescott has not played like a $60 million quarterback, it's hard to look at the Cowboys' start and single out Prescott as the biggest reason for that slide. If anything, Mike Zimmer's defense has been under fire for an inability to stop New Orleans or Baltimore from running.

With personnel meant for Dan Quinn's defense struggling to adapt to Zimmer's scheme, Dallas has been gashed on the ground by some very good running backs. When paired with an inability to run the football and some struggling skill position players, the formula for success in Dallas has proven elusive to pin down.

The Cowboys don't have too much time to sit on their hands and hope things even out. Dallas' next three games after Thursday are against the undefeated Steelers, NFC-finalist Lions, and still quality 49ers. Things could go off the rails quickly, and people could lose their jobs as a result of this stretch.

Prescott and the Cowboys could fix all of this by getting back on the right track and winning games, as ending up in the victory column is the best medicine in the NFL. Without it, many Cowboys players and coaches won't have working keycards in the next few weeks.
