Eagles' fourth-quarter collapse makes Cowboys' comeback win even sweeter

The only thing better than seeing the Cowboys win on a Sunday afternoon is watching the Eagles lose, and the best days are the ones where both happened. And while the Dallas Cowboys prevailed in a back-and-forth affair with the Houston Texans, Philly made their win a whole lot sweeter.

While the Cowboys rode a CeeDee Lamb legacy game (and a Javonte Williams hat trick) to a 34-30 victory in which they controlled the second half, the Eagles lost control in the second half. Despite controlling a majority of the game against the Los Angeles Rams, they somehow lost their second straight game.

Philadelphia was beating the Rams by as much as 10 points, yet found a way to lose because of a back-breaking collapse in the fourth quarter. But that's not all. The Eagles still held that 10-point lead until there were eight minutes to play, during which they had a 3rd-and-goal from the two-yard line.

ESPN gave them an almost 97% chance to win, and they almost certainly would've won if they hadn't turned the ball over on downs on that goal-line possession. But the door remained open for reigning MVP Matthew Stafford and the Rams, who led two straight touchdown drives to flip the script on the road.

And given both of these fantastic endings were happening at the same time, it made things feel even more cathartic.

The Cowboys' Week 4 win happened at the same time as the Eagles' collapse

A collapse of that magnitude is rare (and hilarious) regardless of who it happened to, but knowing it's Dallas' biggest rival makes it even funnier. It's not like they haven't become enough of a punchline in recent weeks after losing to a Case Keenum-led Bears team, yet every week it becomes a new issue.

After last week, I didn't think another NFL coach would have Brian Schottenheimer beat on the choke job scale, but Nick Sirianni made a case. The Eagles did not score a single point in the second half, and they picked off Stafford twice in the first half, but the momentum flipped in the fourth quarter.

For my people saying Schotty deserves to be on the hot seat, are you ignoring what's going on in Philly? There is no reason a roster with this much talent is this inconsistent, especially on offense. And yes, they had their best half of football on Sunday, but NFL games aren't 30 minutes long.

It doesn't matter how slow you start because all that matters is how you finish. That's all that people will remember when it's all said and done. Meanwhile, the Cowboys' offense led them to victory against a Texans team full of talent on defense.

Not counting starts where he didn't finish the game due to injury, Jalen Hurts was held under 100 passing yards for the first time in his career as the Philadelphia offense sputtered after losing Saquon Barkley to a hamstring. They've been start-and-stop all year, and even when they did have momentum, they squandered it.

While these teams share a 2-2 record and are tied for second place in the NFC East, the door is wide open for the Cowboys to take advantage of the Eagles' struggles and lap the Jameis Winston-led Giants to win the division.
