A sleepy Dallas Cowboys summer break was shaken awake on Wednesday when decorated pass rusher Von Miller shared a photo of himself in a No. 24 Cowboys jersey on Instagram.
Cowboys fans have been waiting for someone -- anyone -- to report that Dallas has signed the DeSoto native to a one-year deal. Those hopes have to be put on hold for now, as Cowboys insider Jane Slater of NFL Network pumped the brakes on the rumors.
It's worth noting, though, that Slater's wording wasn't absolute. She prefaced her post with "For now....," suggesting the situation could change, even if there's nothing to report at the moment.
Notably, Slater didn't shut the door completely. She prefaced her post with the words "For now," which leaves room for interpretation. While a far cry from confirmation that Jerry Jones and Co. have interest, it isn't an outright dismissal, either.

The Von Miller-Cowboys rumors have been put on hold for the time being
Slater's update is a buzzkill, but it offers a glimmer of hope that Miller could end up a Cowboy. Perhaps the rumors will pick back up closer to training camp. After all, the Cowboys don't leave for Oxnard for another three weeks. It's not like the team charter takes off tomorrow.
It wasn't until July 16 of last year that Miller agreed to terms with the Washington Commanders. A similar timeline could unfold with Dallas.
One thing we know for certain is that Miller wants to play for the Cowboys.
In a recent interview with RJ Ochoa of Blogging The Boys, the seven-time All-Pro said playing for Dallas would be "amazing." One of the biggest draws, he said, is that his parents would be able to drive to every home game. The former Texas A&M star still has plenty of family in the area, making a homecoming all the more appealing.
Even at 37, Miller would be an excellent pickup for the Cowboys, who could use a situational pass rusher behind projected OLB starters Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku. He'd also lessen the need for No. 23 overall pick Malachi Lawrence to produce right away, and would push former draft disappointments Sam Williams and Marist Liufau further down the pecking order.
For now, there's nothing imminent between Miller and Dallas. But between his Cowboys jersey tease and publicly saying he'd love to play for the team, he's made no secret of where he'd like to play next.
Whether that's enough to convince Jerry and Stephen Jones to make a move remains to be seen.
