The Dallas Cowboys are working their way through their offseason program, and soon, they will wrap things up with mandatory minicamp from June 16-18.
While OTAs are much different than the football played in the fall — see Dan Campbell calling them a pajama party — they are an important part of the team’s evaluation process.
Like every other team, the Cowboys are currently evaluating their roster, and creating a depth chart for when they return to training camp. Some players will enter camp under more pressure than others, because they will essentially already be on the hot seat.
Understanding that reality, here are five players in Dallas who will be at risk of losing their roster spot after OTAs.
These Dallas Cowboys will be under pressure following OTAs
Jonathan Mingo, WR
Jonathan Mingo was a second-round pick for the Carolina Panthers back in 2023, but his time in Carolina didn’t work out. The Panthers traded Mingo to Dallas in 2024, and he has been with the team since. Unfortunately, the fresh start hasn’t worked out for the receiver.
In a season and a half, Mingo has appeared in just 14 games for the Cowboys, catching only six passes for 71 yards. Fortunately for Dallas, they aren’t hurting at receiver. With all the guys in the Cowboys’ wide receiver room, Mingo could be on his way out.
Markquese Bell, SAF
Markquese Bell has been an interesting player since joining the team in 2022, developing from an undrafted player to a contributing defender. Dallas has also made him a hybrid player, playing some safety and linebacker. However, Bell hasn’t really been able to carve out a role as a key player on the defense.
Now, with the Cowboys improving their roster at linebacker and safety, Bell could be on the outs. He could stick around as a valuable depth piece who can play special teams in addition to defense, but he will have to compete for that spot.
Trikweze Bridges, CB
Trikweze Bridges is only entering his second season in the NFL. He started his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, but found his way to the Cowboys when they claimed him off waivers last August. He made his way onto the field as a rookie, recording 23 tackles and one interception in 16 games played.
Despite those appearances, Bridges isn’t a priority or focus in Dallas’ cornerback room. He may stick around and eventually make it to the practice squad, or he could try to find his way with another team.
Israel Abanikanda, RB
Israel Abanikanda has been in the league since 2023, entering as a fifth-round pick with the New York Jets. He made his way to the Cowboys in 2025, signing with the practice squad during the season. He eventually signed a contract with the team and is trying to make the official roster.
Unfortunately, for Abanikanda, it’s not looking good for him. Dallas is deep at the running back spot, led by Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, and Malik Davis. Abanikanda beating one of them out for a roster spot will be a tall task.
