Another fourth-round selection in 2021 was Jabril Cox out of LSU. Taken before Josh Ball, Cox was the 115th overall pick, and while he was slightly older than most rookies, he was also considered a potential mid-round gem.

Cox spent four years at North Dakota State and then transferred to LSU for his final year of eligibility, making him 23 when he was drafted. A three-time FCS Champion with North Dakota, he proved he can do it at the next level with the Tigers.

Dallas liked his speed and ability to play coverage, seeing him as a potential starter down the road. However, as a rookie, he suffered a torn ACL, and wound up with just two tackles in seven games. This season, they expected him to take a step forward — pending health — but that didn’t happen, thanks in large part to another LSU product.

Damone Clark was a fifth-round draft pick this season for the Cowboys, and he was a gamble. Coming off neck surgery, there was no guarantee he would play at all as a rookie. Not only has that happened, but he’s appeared in seven games already with 35 tackles and two forced fumbles.

His ascent has led to Cox being off the field; the 2021 pick hasn’t recorded any playing time since Week 12. Unless there’s an injury to Clark, that likely won’t change.
