George Fant, Swing Tackle – Seattle Seahawks

The Cowboys need a swing tackle rental for half a season. And the Seattle Seahawks’ George Fant seems to fit the bill. Just 27-years old, Fant has started 20 games during his four-year career so far. He’s currently scheduled to become a free agent next offseason. But really, this could be a number of different swing tackles across the NFL.

Dallas simply needs to find a more adequate swing tackle than the one they have, Cameron Fleming, who is far too inconsistent. With the health status of nine-year veteran Smith a weekly concern, the Cowboys must have a more reliable option at the position. And I believe it only needs to be a temporary solution. Here’s why …

For the past two seasons, Dallas has been playing 2018 second-rounder Connor Williams at left guard. With the surprising third-round selection of Penn State guard Connor McGovern in April, the Cowboys might have secured their left guard of the future. Unfortunately, a pectoral injury has delayed McGovern’s debut in Dallas. In the meantime, Williams continues to gain valuable experience as a starter.

The idea of moving Williams to swing tackle next offseason seems to be the logical choice. Thus allowing McGovern to start at left guard if he’s ready. If not, the Cowboys currently have both Joe Looney and Xavier Su’a-Filo who can man the position until he is.

If that’s true, then Dallas only needs a half-season rental to secure the position for a playoff run. Fant makes sense as he has valuable starting experience and is currently heading towards free agency next offseason anyway.
