George Iloka, S

On the surface, the signing of veteran George Iloka made a lot of sense this offseason. The Cowboys failed attempt to trade for former Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas left several questions surrounding the current starting safety duo in Dallas, Jeff Heath, and Xavier Woods.

Signing a seven-year veteran with a whopping 79 NFL starts under his belt seemed wise. And his 6-foot-4, 222-pound frame made him the ideal safety in a Kris Richard-led defense. Yet, Iloka has all but disappeared both in the preseason and in training camp, running with the third-team. The ascension of fellow safeties like Donovan Wilson and Darian Thompson has made the 29-year old dispensable.

Jalen Guyton, WR

The trio of Reggie Davis, Jon’Vea Johnson, and Jalen Guyton received a lot of attention coming out of OTAs and minicamp this offseason. All three are speedsters and all showed flashes of competence early on. But any hope that one of the three would emerge during training camp and in the preseason has all but disappeared now.

Johnson has struggled with drops, essentially wilting under the bright NFL lights of the preseason. Davis has failed to make an impact, muffing a punt against the Rams. Finally, there’s Guyton, who’s been all but invisible. There’s chance undrafted rookie out of North Texas lands on the Cowboys’ practice squad. But at this point, that’s not a guarantee.
