Codey McElroy, TE

Unlikely to play in the Cowboys’ final preseason game due to a reported neck/shoulder injury, any chance the former professional baseball player/college basketball walk-on/NFL tight end makes the final-53 in Dallas has likely vanished. I’m not sure Dallas ever intended to keep more than three tight ends on their final roster anyway. (Jason Witten, Blake Jarwin, Dalton Schultz)

But the raw tight end prospect did show talent, racking up five receptions for 46 yards in the preseason. If McElroy makes it through waivers, which we expect him to do, don’t be surprised if the Cowboys stash him away on their practice squad hoping to develop him to be the player Rico Gathers never turned out to be in Dallas.

Daniel Ross, DT

The Cowboys went about the business of addressing their defensive tackle position this offseason. Dallas used their first pick in the draft in the second round to select UCF defensive tackle Trysten Hill. Combined with the excellent play of a now healthy Maliek Collins and the additions of free agents like Christian Covington and Kerry Hyder, it appears Ross will be on the outs as it’s always a numbers game when it comes to final cuts.

Those are seven fringe Dallas Cowboys’ players that we believe are destined for the waiver wire or release this weekend. Again, there will be 37 Cowboys on the street following the team’s final preseason game. Who did we miss? Who are we wrong about? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
