#5. Did Jason Garrett just save his job again?

I have to admit it. A ice cold feeling rushed over my body when I saw a grin on the face of Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett at the end of Sunday’s unlikely victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Usually emotionless and even-keeled on the sidelines, to see any emotion from Garrett was a bit unsettling.

But it was that creepy smile that I’ll have nightmares about for weeks. My biggest fear? That Garrett believes he just saved his job in Dallas again. And the awful truth is he may be right. Especially if this victory is a catalyst for more wins in the coming weeks.

For many, it seems Garrett’s job is only safe if the Cowboys make the playoffs. Yet, I’ve always believed he’s got one “Get Out of Jail Free card” still left to play. And that’s firing offensive coordinator Scott Linehan.

As it was revealed on Sunday morning, Garrett considered firing Linehan prior to the start of the season. The Cowboys also considered making the move during the bye week. Now, a firing is unlikely to happen until this offseason. And it may not happen at all if Dallas suddenly turns their season around.

I can easily see Jason Garrett justifying one more year in Dallas with a new offensive coordinator at the helm. It’s the card I think he has left to play as a last resort. And I think Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones loves Garrett so much, he’ll actually allow him to play it.
