According to a report, the Dallas Cowboys have toyed with the idea of terminating the employment of their offensive coordinator twice this year.

For the Dallas Cowboys, their performance through the first half of the regular season has been very disappointing. Already registering five losses in their first eight games, the Cowboys are once again on the edge of playoff irrelevance.

The Cowboys offense has taken a nosedive in 2018, having many wondering how offensive coordinator Scott Linehan still has a job in Dallas. And according to a recent report, the Cowboys and head coach Jason Garrett may be pondering the same thing.

A report by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport claims that Garrett considered parting ways with Linehan prior to the start of the season. Instead, the team kept their offensive coordinator and allowed him to recommend some changes to their wide receiver corps.

The Cowboys reportedly considered letting go of Linehan once again during their bye week. Instead, Dallas fired offensive line coach Paul Alexander and traded away their 2019 first round selection to the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Amari Cooper.

But Cooper’s debut was a flop as the Cowboys offense actually looked worse rather than better following their bye week. That’s despite Linehan having a full two weeks to prepare for the struggling Tennessee Titans. That Monday night debacle has many clamoring even louder for both Linehan and Garrett’s jobs.

With a tough five-game stretch ahead of them, kicking off with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in yet another primetime matchup Sunday night, the Cowboys could quickly find themselves out of the playoff hunt. And without a first-round selection in next year’s draft, the future looks dim for Dallas.

If the Dallas Cowboys finally decide to part ways with both Jason Garrett and Scott Linehan this offseason, Ian Rapoport also reports that owner and general manager Jerry Jones and his son, vice president Stephen Jones, have their hopes set on Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley as a possible replacement at head coach. So maybe there is some hope left after all.
