Selected fourth overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, Cooper ran a blazing 4.42 forty at the Scouting Combine. Combined with his elite route running skills, you’d expect Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott to take plenty of deep shots with his newest receiver.
Yet, through their first two games together, Prescott and Cooper haven’t connected for a pass longer than 24 yards. They’ve recorded 11 receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown in their brief time together, averaging 12.1 yards per completion.
Prescott has attempted to hit Cooper deep a few times. Despite the two-time Pro Bowler receiver being able to gain some separation on those deep throws, Dak continuously overthrows him.
You have to believe Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper will start completing those chunk plays soon. They just haven’t had enough time to build some much-needed chemistry and familiarity.
