#4 – Rico Gathers will score his first NFL touchdown

Third-year tight end Rico Gathers made his NFL debut in Week Two against the New York Giants. Although he failed to record a reception, Gathers was targeted twice.

Once, while he was clearly open in the endzone. Quarterback Dak Prescott just missed him.

I believe they will correct that missed opportunity in Week Three, as the Cowboys continue to look for creative ways to score the football. At 6-foot-6, 285 pounds, Gathers is the perfect endzone target for Prescott. And due to the lack of talent at the tight end position, the former basketball player has suddenly become the Cowboys best receiving option at the position.

Although veteran Geoff Swaim has performed well attempting to fill the shoes of now retired future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten, both Blake Jarwin and rookie Dalton Schultz have been non-factors. In fact, Jarwin bobbled an onsides kick against the Giants that likely has him in the coach’s doghouse.

Gathers is hungry for his first reception/NFL touchdown. I think the Cowboys will once again call his number on one or two big plays. I suspect Prescott knows he missed the big fella in Week Two and will try his best to make up for it against the Seahawks.
