#5 – The Cowboys safeties will outshine Seattle’s

This one is the boldest of the five predictions. The Seattle Seahawks likely possess the best safety combo in the NFL in Earl Thomas and Bradley McDougald. Thomas has racked up 11 tackles, two pass defends, and an interception after sitting out the entire offseason due to a contract dispute.

McDougald’s numbers are even better. Through two games, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer has posted 12 combined tackles, three pass defends and two picks. These two make a lethal combo in Seattle’s secondary.

Yet, I believe the combination of the Cowboy safeties Jeff Heath, Xavier Woods, and Kavon Frazier will actually outperform Thomas and McDougald on Sunday afternoon. And I have two reason as to why.

First, I believe the Cowboys offense will run more than pass, limiting the opportunities in the passing game for Seattle’s dynamic safety duo. On the other side of the ball, I do think Seattle’s offense will look to pass more, giving Dallas’ secondary additional chances to make big plays.

Second, I believe the Cowboys defensive line will be much more disruptive than the Seahawks. And when you are able to apply consistent pressure to opposing quarterbacks, the secondary has a much easier job. They don’t have to cover receiving options for as long and the offense tends to make more mistakes. I’m counting on that in this prediction.

This matchup clearly favors the Dallas Cowboys secondary. But the Seattle Seahawks have a more talented safety tandem. I’m betting the Cowboys safeties will make the most of their opportunities and will outplay ultimately both Thomas and McDougald.
