K is for knocks
It’s not just long term injuries that have hurt the Cowboys this season. The injury reports each week have been lengthy. 15 players were lists on the report before the Tampa Bay game last week, the most all season. Players are going into games carrying knocks thus not performing at 100%. Yet we wonder why we struggle?
L is for leadership
The coaching staff have been savvy in recent years, bringing in journeymen or players slightly long in the tooth. One of those guys was Jeremy Mincey. When he was added to the roster he was very much an after thought to Henry Melton who he arrived with. Yet 18 months later, Mincey is the standout leader on the Cowboys defensive line.
The team is peppered with the professionals. Your Sean Lee‘s, Doug Free‘s, Dan Bailey’s. The work hard, do your job and lead by example type of demeanour. Tony Romo as quarterback naturally heads up team, and his absence has been noticed.
It’s felt at times this season that Jason Witten is the only leader on this team- both vocally and physically. It’s easy to be considered a leader when games are going your way. But it’s the players that stand up as men in the losses and try to drag the team over the line that are the true leaders. Maybe because Tony Romo has been the one to shoulder this team in recent years that his absence has been felt so considerably.
"“He’s a great leader. He’s a great player. I mean amazing quarterback…he’s amazing and he’s a good person and he’s a good leader and he’s a good friend. It’ll be great to have that kind of presence on the field and that type of leadership to get the ball rolling.” – Jeremy Mincey"
