I is for interceptions

The Dallas Cowboys have 5 interceptions for the season. NFC East Rivals the New York Giants have nearly three times more than them and lead the league with 14. It’s the lack of turnovers that has plagued the Cowboys all year. They’ve come close; yet close isn’t good enough when you’re struggling.

Jeff Heath tops the Cowboys chart with two interceptions, both of which came in last weeks game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Too bad Heath will be remembered more in that game for drawing a flag that awarded the Bucs with a fresh set of downs, and saw Jameis Winston run into the end zone on the following play.

Last year the Cowboys finished 7th in the league with 18 interceptions. 8 of those came from players no longer on the team. Bruce Carter (5) and Justin Durant (1) are with new teams and Orlando Scandrick is on IR.

Nearly all the defensive backs have had opportunities to make picks this year, even if they weren’t returnable for six they should have lead to a turnover in the play. Just another for the list of those “what ifs” moments for this 2015 team.

J is for Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones. Self appointed General manager of the Dallas Cowboys. Loathed by most, respected by few. Surprisingly hardly mentioned during the teams successful 2014 season. Yet here we are struggling to win a game and it’s all because of Jerry.

If the Cowboys drafting Zack Martin over Johnny Manziel wasn’t a sign of Jerry relinquishing a significant amount of control over to his son Stephen then what is? Jerry will continue to be the front facing man for the Cowboys for years yet.

Of course he isn’t bulletproof nor blameless. He declared at a press conference pre draft that the Cowboys weren’t interested in a running back. Maybe they weren’t, but there’s nothing like keeping your cards to your chest when it comes to the draft!

The team could do with Jerry keeping schtum at times, and I’m sure Jason Garrett and Stephen Jones have plenty of face palm moments. Dallas Cowboys PR director Rich Dalrymple hovers just feet away from Jerry at each and every presser, ready to pull the plug when necessary.

Jerry’s not going anywhere anytime soon. So buckle up!
