Is it time for Dallas to cut ties with Tight End Martellus Bennett?

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Cuts, Injuries, Roster, The Landry Hat, Transactions | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

If the recent release of Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode teaches us anything, it’s that no one is safe. And according to Coach Jason Garrett, there might still be some big names on the chopping block. But is one of those names Martellus Bennett? Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the former Texas A&M tight end has clearly not lived up to his potential. Limited by a combination of injury, mental lapses, and perceived laziness (see Hard Knocks), Bennett has struggled with consistency his entire career. In the past three seasons. he’s had 68 receptions as [...]

Cowboys Offense to Carry Team and Other Observations

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The NFL pre-season is an optical illusion.  Teams that perform well during the pre-season may have a miserable regular season, e.g., the 2008 Detroit Lions were 4-0 in the pre-season only to finish the regular season with a disgraceful 0-16 regular season record.  Despite the lack of tell-tale signs on a teams regular season record, individual performances can be graded and presumptions made based upon the same.  The following will detail a few presumptions based upon the first three pre-season match-ups for the 2011 Dallas Cowboys. 1.  Tyron Smith is a capable tackle.  Smith was the first tackle drafted in [...]

Whatever happened to the dancing Kenny “The Shark” Gant?

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL, Off-Topic/Other, Retro, The Landry Hat | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Known more for his dance moves than his on-field play, Kenneth Gant was one of the more memorable players from those great Dallas Cowboy Superbowl teams of the early 90′s.  As a ninth round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, Gant was an unlikely candidate to become one of the team’s most popular players. Hailing from little known Albany State University. the 5’11 safety quickly made his mark on special teams. Soon, he became one of the Boy’s best special team’s players. Although Gant’s speed and hard-hitting play kept him on the roster, it was an incident with teammate Kevin [...]

Madden 12 is still no NFL 2K5

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Madden 11, NFL, The Landry Hat, Video Games | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

As many of you probably already know, Madden 12 is being released to the masses today. Madden is the highly popular football video game series from EA Sports. It also happens to be the only video game you can buy that is licensed by the NFL. This mean no other video game can feature NFL team names or it’s players that are currently in the league. First off, let me say that I am an avid gamer. I’ve played every version of Madden since it was ported over for the Xbox. And for the past few installments I have been [...]

The Dallas Cowboys say adiós to Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cowboys, Cuts, Depth Chart, News, NFL, NFL Free Agency, Roster, Rumors, The Landry Hat, Transactions | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Dallas Cowboys parted ways with Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode today. The team released the 10 year veteran after he was out performed by 2nd year player, Phil Costa. Gurode is just coming off recent knee surgery. Apparently, Dallas and the 33 year old Gurode could not come to an agreement concerning the restructuring of his contract. He was scheduled to make 5.5 million in base salary this year. Dallas will now save that amount against it’s salary cap. Gurode’s release is not a surprise after he was held out of Saturday’s pre-season game against the Vikings, despite making [...]

Our Original Cowboy Video Game MVP: Tecmo Bowl’s Herschel Walker

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

With the release of Madden 12 this week, I thought it would be appropriate to honor one of the greatest Dallas Cowboy players ever to be depicted in a video game, Herschel Walker. In 1989, the arcade hit Tecmo Bowl was ported over to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It instantly became a hit as it was only the second game ever to use real NFL player’s names. Unfortunately, Tecmo was unable to use the actual team names, but they did include the cities. The twelve most popular teams made it into the game. Those teams were: Indianapolis, Minnesota, Miami, [...]

Cowboy’s Sensabaugh comes up big in preseason win over the Vikings

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Gameday, NFL, The Landry Hat | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Last night, the Dallas Cowboys faced the Minnesota Vikings at home for the third game of their preseason. The game, known for being a dress rehearsal for the regular season, started with more intrigue than a soap opera. The drama started off with a bang as it was announced Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode would not be playing even though he made the trip to Minnesota. Owner Jerry Jones called it strictly a “business decision”. It is believed that Gurode will either be traded, have his contract trimmed down, or be straight out released soon. This means that the currently [...]

Pro Bowl Center Andre Gurode appears to be on his way out of Big D

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cowboys, Depth Chart, News, NFL, Roster, Rumors, The Landry Hat, Transactions | COMMENTS: Comments Off

In a surprise move by the Dallas Cowboys this afternoon, Pro Bowl Center Andre Gurode is being held out of tonight’s game against the Minnesota Vikings for what is being called a “business decision”. During tonight’s pre-game show, Owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Gurode will not play tonight and that a discussion about his future will be had with him on Sunday morning. Jones also mentioned salary cap issues and camp competition as other reasons the five-time pro bowler was being held out despite making the trip to Minnesota. Gurode could be seen pacing the sidelines in street clothes during [...]

Tonight’s game will be a true reflection of the upcoming season

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Draft, Gameday, Injuries, Popular, Preview, The Landry Hat | COMMENTS: Comments Off

If you make it a habit not to watch any Dallas Cowboy preseason games, you should watch tonight’s match against the Vikings. Referred to as the “dress rehearsal” game, most observers agree that tonight’s scrimmage will be the closest thing you’ll see to a regular season game. Therefore, it is also the best why to judge how the season could play out for Dallas. Coach Jason Garrett has already stated his desire to play the starters into the third quarter. So there should be plenty for us to speculate on until the season kicks off in a couple weeks. Here [...]
