Jerry Jones has famously said that he likes to see how the leaves fall before giving out big contract extensions. That was in reference to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb entering training camp last season without new deals, but both players ended up signing ahead of Week 1 and getting everything they asked for and more.
A big leaf fell last week regarding the Micah Parsons deal as T.J. Watt signed a record-setting deal last week. Watt signed a three-year extension with $108 million guaranteed, and his average annual money now sits at $41 million per season. He is now the second pass rusher (Myles Garrett) to surpass $40 million per season annually.
The expectation is that Parsons’ new deal will join them, and he still ultimately surpasses Watt’s number. The expectation is that he should see significantly more guaranteed money, and it will likely happen on a four-year deal. But the question is when will the deal get done? And could Parsons see other pass rushers (Trey Hendrickson, Aidan Hutchinson) get contracts before him?
In a recent No Huddle podcast on the Stacking The Box YouTube channel, Tommy Jaggi and Marcus Mosher discussed the impact of Watt’s deal and how it relates to Parsons. And they debated how much more money could Parsons potentially earn on his next contract:
The two NFL analysts also dove into other topics such as Rashee Rice’s upcoming suspension, what’s going on with Jordan Addison, and if the Titans need to make a trade for a quarterback after the latest Will Levis news.
