The Dallas Cowboys have officially kicked training camp, and it took all of about 10 seconds for Jerry Jones to turn things into an absolute circus.
That's obviously nothing new for Jones, but he at least could've let fans of America's Team have one day of hope and excitement before the start of the sideshow.
Naturally, one of the big topics of conversation during the team's introductory press conference was the ongoing contract situation surrounding four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons, who is currently set to play the upcoming 2025 campaign on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, which will pay him just over $24 million.
A new contract, of course, could be worth more than $40 million per season. One would think Parsons would be in line to either match or surpass the $41 million AAV the Pittsburgh Steelers just gave to T.J. Watt, given all he's accomplished through his first four seasons.
Jones essentially dodged questions about the urgency of getting his best defender signed to a new contract. However, when new head coach Brian Schottenheimer was asked about the possibility of Parsons showing up to camp but not practicing until a deal is finalized, Jerry jumped in with an absurd (and incorrect) comment that involved not only Parsons but also quarterback Dak Prescott.
"Just because we sign him doesn't mean we're going to have him," Jones said. "He was hurt six games last year, seriously. We've signed...I remember signing a player for the highest-paid at the position in the league, and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year in Dak Prescott. So, there's a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you're thinking about committing and guaranteeing money."
Parsons missed only four games last year, by the way, not six, and still made the Pro Bowl after registering a dozen sacks.
Naturally, Jones' quotes started making the rounds on social media, and J.J. Watt quickly chimed in with his thoughts on the matter on X with this post:
"Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it…
"Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you."

And while Parsons himself has yet to publicly comment on what went down, he did repost Watt's comments to his own page. So, he obviously heard what was said and clearly isn't pleased.

For the most part, Parsons has remained fairly calm for quite some time regarding this situation, saying all the things he's supposed to say and doing all the things he's supposed to do.
But he's gotten a lot more aggressive recently, even going so far as to take a direct shot at Jones and the entire Dallas front office in an interview with WWE legend The Undertaker.
Dallas Cowboys drama is back, ladies and gentlemen, and all we can do is grab the popcorn and wait and see how this all plays out.
