Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, now plying his trade as a practice squad reinforcement for the Seattle Seahawks, had a very rough go of it in Week 5. Not only did his team lose to the San Francisco 49ers, but Mike Evans made a mockery of him.

Evans had made the former Dallas defensive cornerstone look like a fool in San Francisco's Week 5 victory over the Seahawks by jokingly checking the back of Diggs' jersey during a verbal sparring back-and-forth. Evans may not have intended for his postgame comments to come off the way they did, but they may have stung worse than what happened in the game.

Evans said that he didn't even know Diggs was in Seattle and didn't recognize his old Cowboys adversary upon first glance. The quote that really cut deep was Evans offhandedly mentioning that Diggs "was a good player." Note the word "was" there. Past tense. As the youth nowadays say, Diggs is washed.

In the initial trash-talk incident, Evans physically grabbed Diggs and turned him around to get a look at the back of his jersey. The future Hall of Fame wide receiver didn't even respond to Diggs' attempt to keep this verbal clash going, laughing him off as he went back to the sideline.

Few could have forseen as swift a fall from grace as what happened to Diggs since the start of the 2024 season. Gone is the player who intercepted 11 passes during his second NFL season, and in his place is someone who maintains the same aggressive style of play without the results that justify his risks.

The Cowboys finally parted ways with Diggs after his 2025 season was epitomized by a lethal cocktail of poor results and effort that was called into question. Since then, both the Seahawks and Green Bay Packers have taken chances on him, and neither seems very interested in keeping him around long-term.

Former Dallas Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs' fall from grace is complete

Dallas' secondary without Diggs is far from an elite unit, as DaRon Bland's regression to borderline unplayable status and poor drafting have made them incapable of even beating out an undrafted free agent rookie like Jalon Daniels. However, Diggs would not be a part of the solution, as part of the reason Dallas is even in this situation is the need to dig out from under the big contract No. 7 was handed.

Diggs' most notable moments on the field in the last two years have been his historically bad 2025 season and being used as a visual gag for one of Evans' jokes. No one, even the staunchest Diggs hater, foresaw this.
