The Dallas Cowboys have arrived in Oxnard for training camp, and the media didn't waste any time asking about extending Micah Parsons. Fans have been waiting for Parsons to get his moment in the spotlight, especially after Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt inked mega deals.
Besides Parsons, Stephen Jones revealed that there are more Cowboys potentially on the brink of extensions. One guy Jones mentioned was left guard Tyler Smith, who has exceeded expectations over his first three seasons, making two Pro Bowls and being named a second-team All-Pro in 2023.
When Jones was asked if he was open to a conversation of extending Smith's contract, he replied, "What makes you think we haven't?"
Cowboys' Stephen Jones hints at Tyler Smith extension amid Micah Parsons debacle
Cowboys fans want nothing more than to see Smith extended. The 2022 first-round pick is already one of the best guards in football at just 24 years old. He looks to fit the billing as the next great offensive lineman in the Cowboys' storied history.
Most teams would already have Smith locked up, and while it shouldn't be long until Dallas extends him, you can never be too sure with the Joneses steering the ship.
Smith's expectations of winning a Super Bowl went viral right after the Cowboys touched down in Oxnard on Sunday. That ambition, along with his early career accolades, are exactly why Dallas needs to secure Smith to a multi-year deal. He is a franchise centerpiece.

In what's still a confusing logjam at running back, the guard tandem of Smith and 2025 first-round pick Tyler Booker could become one of the best in the NFL. The hope is that Cowboys fans will be talking about Booker in a similar light that Smith is currently being viewed.
Either way, the Joneses didn't make themselves look any better in this press conference. This was a chance for the front office to show that they are moving with Parsons on a deal soon, but that didn't happen.
Instead, the Joneses dug themselves into a hole by throwing shade at their superstar pass rusher while also somewhat providing hope for other guys like Smith.
Cowboys fans won't take the Joneses seriously about any of their favorite players until they sign Parsons. It's as simple as that. As to why the Joneses like to wait until the last minute is unknown, except that maybe they adore the benefits of America's Team being the talk of the world.
