The intensity is always high at an NFL training camp, no matter what team you're talking about. When guys are duking it out for roster spots and depth chart positioning in a metaphoric sense, adrenaline is already running high. But sometimes the intensity boils over and you get the occasional fight or brawl, and the Dallas Cowboys just had their first of 2024 training camp.

And it wasn't with the players you might have expected.

Typically these fights happen between linemen going at it. The guys in the trenches are making contact every single play, and even though it's not the same level of hitting as a real game, someone holding a block for too long can agitate another player.

That ended up being the case for a couple of hopeful rookies on the roster in fifth-round pick Caelen Carson and undrafted tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford.

Caelen Carson and Brevyn Spann-Ford ignite first fight of Cowboys training camp

This fight just so happens to be between two rookies the Cowboys are really high on, and Carson -- in particular -- has been having a really good start to training camp.

The Cowboys need instant impact from their rookie class this year and it's clear that these young players know it. Carson has been balling out on the practice field and frankly, he takes care of business in this little dust-up with Brevyn Spann-Ford, who is substantially bigger than him.

Spann-Ford was one of the top prizes among the undrafted free agency heap following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft. Mostly known for his blocking abilities at Minnesota, Spann-Ford has an intriguing combination of size and athletic traits at 6-foot-7, 270 pounds.

Considering Carson clocks in at just under six feet tall and 200 pounds, the way this fight ended up going is an impressive look for the Wake Forest product.

Spann-Ford holds onto his block a little too long for Carson's liking, and the rookie defensive back takes exception to it. Obviously, when you're a coach of a team like this, you want to avoid personal foul penalties at all costs. Something like this happening during a game could cost your team field position, a first-down, a red zone trip, or even a possession. In a worst case scenario, it's costing you seven points.

But you also pay attention to the competitive side of things. You coach against tempers boiling over on the field, but you can't help but love seeing the fire and physicality of two rookies jockeying for spots on the 53-man roster and on the Cowboys' depth chart in 2024.
