Cowboys inactives list for Sunday Night Football game against Steelers

If the Cowboys want to keep pace with the Commanders, they'll have to beat the Steelers without their best defensive player.

After watching the Washington Commanders move to 4-1 with a dominant win over the Cleveland Browns, the Dallas Cowboys will look to stay just one game back in the NFC East on Sunday night as they battle the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Unfortunately for fans of America's Team, however, Mike McCarthy and Co. will attempt to do so without the services of several high-profile players, most notably Micah Parsons, who's officially been ruled out of this primetime matchup due to the high-ankle sprain he suffered in the Cowboys' Week 4 win over the New York Giants.

But Parsons wasn't the only Dallas defender to go down against New York, as DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a Lisfranc injury to his right foot and will miss at least the next four weeks after being placed on injured reserve. Thankfully, the bones weren't displaced, which means he avoids surgery, but he could be on the shelf for even longer than his IR stint, as his return timetable has been set between four and eight weeks.

Thankfully for Mike Zimmer's defensive unit as a whole, they'll be facing a Steelers team that has already lost three offensive linemen to season-ending injuries through the first four weeks. So, it'll be very interesting to see how things play out.

Let's have a look at the inactives for this Cowboys-Steelers matchup on Sunday Night Football.

Cowboys inactives

  • OLB Micah Parsons
  • RB Deuce Vaughn
  • CB Caelen Carson
  • DE KJ Henry
  • OT Matt Waletzko
  • TE John Stephens Jr.
  • Trey Lance (emergency QB)

As Lawrence has been placed on IR, he's not on the Cowboys' official inactive list for Sunday night. The same goes for wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who was placed on IR on Saturday, as he contracted an infection during a minor procedure on his knee following the win over New York.

But it's not as if Cooks has played a significant role in the Dallas offense thus far, as he'd only recorded nine catches for 91 yards through the first four weeks, although one of those receptions did result in a touchdown.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs was added to the injury report late in the week with an ankle issue and is listed as questionable, but he will suit up. The opposite corner, rookie Caelon Carson, missed Week 4 with a shoulder injury and is officially inactive, leaving Dallas' secondary shorthanded.

Steelers inactives

  • RB Jaylen Warren (knee)
  • RB Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle)
  • OLB Alex Highsmith (groin)
  • TE MyCole Pruitt (knee)
  • OG Max Scharping
  • WR Roman Wilson

The Steelers have officially ruled out Cordarrelle Patterson, who's nursing an ankle injury, as well as running back Jaylen Warren, who'll miss a second straight week after suffering a Grade 1 sprain to the PCL in his right knee in Week 3 against the Chargers.

Also missing a second straight game is linebacker Alex Highsmith, who suffered a groin injury against the Bolts. Tight end MyCole Pruitt, who's only appeared in two games and has recorded just one catch on two targets, is also out.
