Preseason is hardly a needle-mover, but it means that the NFL regular season is just around the corner. If that isn't a reason to get excited, then what is? Training camp is only two weeks old, but the Dallas Cowboys' 90-man roster is about to be put to the test in a game setting.

While these exhibition games lack high-level football, they are a great platform for players to prove they deserve to stick around beyond roster cuts. However, preseason oftentimes also reveals which players aren't quite ready for the regular-season spotlight.

The Cowboys' starters likely won't see the field much over the next three weeks, but that doesn't mean the games don't carry meaningful weight. It's a critical evaluation period for Mike McCarthy and his staff. Without further ado, here's a look at Dallas' full 2024 preseason slate.

What to watch for during Cowboys preseason 2024

There are no shortage of captivating storylines to watch. Trey Lance will have everyone's full attention as he looks to claim the QB2 job from Cooper Rush. Beyond that, Cowboys fans will get to watch first-round pick Tyler Guyton (assuming he plays) take his first live snaps at left tackle.

Other must-watch position battles include wide receiver. Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks have a stranglehold on the third and fourth spots on the depth chart, but Tyron Billy-Johnson, Jalen Cropper, Ryan Flournoy and David Durden have all impressed in camp.

Don't sleep on the battle at tight end. Jake Ferguson is the clearcut alpha, but there are seemingly four players duking it out for the final two spots: Luke Schoonmaker, John Stephens Jr. Brevyn Spann-Ford and Princeton Fant. Who knows? Maybe Dallas keeps four TEs because the position is that deep.

Last but certainly not least is Mike Zimmer. The newly-minted defensive coordinator has Dallas' defense buzzing in training camp. It will be fascinating to watch how the group translates to a game setting for the first time under Zimmer.
