There will be questions about the Dallas Cowboys’ linebackers depth and ability to reach their full potential on the football field.

Losing DeMarvion Overshown was a setback because he was carving out a niche in the defense. The speed, instincts, and seek-and-destroy mentality were all on display.

Instead, he'll be having a red-shirt year.

I believe the outcry about the linebacker depth is slightly overblown. Dallas rarely field three linebackers at the same time. Ultimatley, the Cowboys have multiple options in-house. If they feel as though they need another body, we'll identify one intriguing outside option they can explore.

Leighton Vander Esch

A well-known face, Leighton Vander Esch will lead the Dallas Cowboys linebackers. When healthy, Vander Esch has shown he is a heck of a football player.

With Vander Esch included, this group of linebackers is youthful and has many athletic and versatile players. The speed stands out for me. We are looking at a young group that can cover, defend the run, and blitz.

Leighton Vander Esch and Damone Clark are the starting linebackers. To ensure reliability, it is crucial to have at least two additional high-quality backups.

Leighton Vander Esch is the leader of the linebacker group, and his leadership is unquestionable. Not only has he proven his importance to the linebackers, but he has also shown just how vital he is to the entire defense.
