Latest rumors suggest Cowboys are going to hire worst head coach imaginable

It was previously reported that the Dallas Cowboys' head coaching search could extend well into February. They have only interviewed a handful of candidates and it seemed the interview process was delaying the inevitable Kellen Moore bombshell.

Moore is seen as the favorite for the job. While Moore interviewed on Friday, it was of the virtual variety. The Eagles advancing to the NFC Championship Game means the Cowboys won't get to interview him in person, or for a second time for at least another week.

That left the door open for another candidate to swoop in and sweep Jerry Jones off his feet. If the latest rumblings are accurate, that is exactly what's going down at The Star.

According to Shan Shariff of 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys are preparing an offer to Brian Schottenheimer to presumably make him their head coach.

Cowboys may have settled on Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach

Update: NBC 5 Sports Director Newy Scruggs added more speculation to the Schotty buzz, instructing Cowboys fans on social media to "Stay tuned" with the hashtag #Schottytime and a picture of the 51-year-old.

Schottenheimer gained steam as a candidate over the weekend, though Cowboys fans refused to believe Jerry Jones would hire someone who's been in the NFL for almost two decades and has never been a head coach.

Of course, Jones' logic does not align with the common football diehard.

Schottenheimer interviewed for the job on Tuesday and it seems his impression was so strong that the Cowboys are prepared to end their search.

It is no surprise that Schottenheimer interviewed well. The 51-year-old has terrific people and motivation skills. Those traits lead us to believe he'd actually make a better head coach than offensive coordinator, though that is hardly a compliment given his track record as an OC.

Nothing is confirmed as of yet, but the stars seem to be aligning for Schottenheimer to become team's next head coach. Cowboys fans did not set high expectations for the hiring process, but not a soul had the Joneses landing on Schotty on their bingo card.

Of all the candidates Dallas has interviewed and have been linked to the job, Schottenheimer is by far the least inspiring.

You might as well call him Jason Garrett 2.0.
