As the offseason plods along, one uncomfortable truth is becoming painfully obvious: The Dallas Cowboys aren't going to fix their defense in free agency. While they've made a few notable additions, there are still major holes on the unit that need addressing.

If it happens at all, it'll happen in the NFL Draft. Luckily, the Cowboys have a solid stash of picks to work with. They'll need to use at least one of them on a starting off-ball linebacker, but Jerry Jones may be hesitant to use an early pick on a non-premium position.

Indiana prospect Aiden Fisher offers a low-cost alternative. Likely available in the later rounds, he could step in as an immediate starter for Dallas.

Aiden Fisher is the Dallas Cowboys' perfect late-round answer to lingering LB problem

Let's be honest, in a dream world, Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles is available for the Cowboys at the 12th pick. In reality, he'll likely be long gone by then. Without other obvious solutions at linebacker in the first round, Dallas may have to wait to address the position.

This class is loaded with talent at linebacker, with solid options available throughout the draft. On Day 3, Fisher might be the most cost-effective option.

Every NFL team wants a guy like Fisher on their roster. He plays disciplined football, rarely making major mistakes. What he lacks in athleticism, he makes up for in preparation and instinct. In three seasons under coach Curt Cignetti at James Madison and Indiana, he posted over 300 total tackles. He even finished off his collegiate career as a key piece of Indiana's National Championship run.

Fisher doesn't have the physical tools of a player like Styles. His ceiling may be limited by his lack of elite athleticism, but he's a reliable player with a clear floor of production. He could be a crucial addition in a Cowboys linebacker room that desperately needs help.

Best of all, the Cowboys wouldn't have to use premium draft capital to get him. Based on current projections, Fisher could be available in the sixth round. At that point in the draft, Dallas shouldn't think twice before making the pick.

DeMarvion Overshown and Shemar James simply are not enough to enter the 2026 season with at linebacker. The Cowboys need to add at least one more quality player to the position group, and Fisher may represent their best option in the draft.
