Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown possesses superhuman athletic ability. His sideline-to-sideline range rivals that of any defender in the NFL. But on a defense so desperately lacking talent, his skill set often goes to waste.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have a chance to fix that this offseason. With money to spend after multiple roster moves, this could finally be the year fans see Dallas throw some cash around in free agency.
If they do, former Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush should be a target. Next to Overshown, he could help create a dominant second level of the defense that the Cowboys could lean on moving forward. If Overshown is the hero in the middle of the defense, Bush could be the perfect sidekick.
The Dallas Cowboys could pair Devin Bush with DeMarvion Overshown for a stud linebacker duo
It's no secret that the Cowboys struggled on defense in 2025. Even while the offense put up stellar numbers, the team was unable to stay competitive. That weakness drove Jones to swing a mid-season trade for Quinnen Williams, leading to growth in the back half of the schedule.
But the defensive overhaul is far from over. New defensive coordinator Christian Parker will need a fresh injection of talent to hit the ground running with this unit. The Cowboys need help at all three levels, but signing Bush could be a great first step.
The 27-year-old has bounced around the league a bit since being drafted tenth overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2019. While he may not have lived up to the expectations that came with his draft spot, Bush has become a high-quality starting linebacker.
His last two seasons with the Browns were the best of his career. At the center of a talented defense, he thrived in all areas. The veteran posted career-high marks in both tackles and interceptions. Per PFF, his 7% missed tackle rate was among the best at the position.
Next to Overshown, he could help turn a weakness into a strength for the Cowboys. Both linebackers are a bit undersized, but Bush just showed that he could be effective in a similar situation next to Carson Schwesinger in Cleveland. The athleticism of these two backers would give opposing offenses fits.
Spotrac estimates that Bush will make around $8.9 million per year in free agency. If the Cowboys are serious about contending for a title in 2026, they should consider bringing him to Dallas.
