As Dallas Cowboys training camp opened up, it didn't take long for Jerry Jones to reach peak form. In fact, he did so in quite the hurry.
When talking about Micah Parsons and the contract situation at hand, Jones essentially took an unwarranted dig at his star pass rusher. The Cowboys owner called out Parsons for being hurt last year; clearly something Parsons cannot control.
NFL legend JJ Watt took to social media to fire right back at Jones after seeing the comments.
"Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it…
Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you," Watt wrote.
JJ Watt is living proof of what Cowboys players are already thinking
If a recent, former player like Watt is responding with blatant sarcasm and displeasure, you had better believe the Cowboys locker room is right there with him.
For full context, here is the entire quote from Jones if you missed it:
"Just because we sign him doesn't mean we're going to have him. He was hurt six games last year, seriously ... I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two thirds of the year, Dak Prescott.
"So there's a lot of things you can think about when you're thinking about committing and guaranteeing money."
For Cowboys fans who are really paying attention, you'll notice Jones got his facts mixed up. Parsons made it back in four weeks, not six. So, there's that.
Watt's sarcasm and disproval of Jones' comments only further cement just how out of line they were. But, at this point, would Cowboys fans expect anything different? Jones is going to say what he wants to say. We've long learned that by now.
What fans (and players, most likely) want at this point is pretty simple: just pay the man and stop talking.
