George Pickens' OTA absence was for the reason Cowboys fans all thought it was

Shocker!

Contrary to popular belief, George Pickens is not intending to make the Dallas Cowboys sweat any more this offseason. After missing OTAs, apparently for a good reason, and not making his plans for mandatory minicamp clear last week, Pickens gloriously arrived at The Star on Tuesday.

He didn't participate in the team period of practice, but merely having Pickens back out on the field doing individual work was surely a godsend for Jerry Jones and Brian Schottenheimer. And by all accounts, Pickens intends to play on the franchise tag and be plenty happy to do it. Drama done.

But there is one thing that could throw a wrench into things, and fans of America's Team may be worried to even say his name out loud... so I'll put it in text: David Mulugheta. That's right, the same agent who fatefully represents Micah Parsons and orchestrated last year's blockbuster deal.

Apparently, he was behind Pickens not going to OTAs, as fans suspected.

George Pickens' agent advised him to skip Dallas Cowboys OTAs

According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Pickens told reporters that Mulugheta was behind his absence during OTAs. Here is what the star wide receiver had to say about the matter, and while it is vindicating, it is also worrisome.

"George Pickens said the reason he didn’t report to voluntary workouts is of the advice of his agent David Mulugheta: 'Just because he's in control. So he's like your boss. So there's no trust or anything there. He controls what you do, so really you trust him.'"

Well, someone needs to explain to Pickens that HE is actually Mulugheta's boss. The agent's paycheck comes from the player. So while Pickens should have an agent that he trusts, he should also understand that he does not need to simply comply with everything proposed to him.

Mulugheta didn't do the Cowboys any favors in his last notable negotiation, and it seems like, if things were completely his way, he wouldn't do them any favors this time. Dallas already struck out when facing Mulugheta's fastball, but they need to learn from their last at-bat.

Thankfully, though, Pickens isn't holding out anymore, which is unfortunately a new development in Dallas. It was Zack Martin, then it was CeeDee Lamb, and of course, Parsons. Barring an unforeseen change, Jones and the front office are in the clear.

Ultimately, this post shouldn't really tell Cowboys fans anything that they didn't already suspect or know intuitively. But it is quite vindicating to know that Mulugheta was behind this once again. Dallas should be thankful that, at least on the surface, Pickens isn't just bending the knee to him.
