Dalton Schultz is clearly bitter over Cowboys exit with petty reaction to Texans win

Weird look for Dalton Schultz.

The Dallas Cowboys lost several players to injury in Monday night's loss to the Houston Texans, including guards Zack Martin and Tyler Smith as well as tight end Jake Ferguson.

Ferguson left in the first half with a concussion and was quickly ruled out. Jerry Jones expressed concern over Ferguson's status for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders and he could be heard-pressed to play on Thanksgiving the following week.

Without Ferguson, the Cowboys got nice production from rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford and 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker. However, the big story at the tight end position from the game was none other than old "friend" Dalton Schultz.

Schultz made a minimal impact against the team that drafted him, but that didn't stop him from taking a victory lap on social media. The veteran tight end poured creamer into two cups of coffee and revealed the following message: "THE HOUSTON TEXANS ARE ... THE BEST TEAM IN TEXAS!"

Dalton Schultz takes petty shot at Cowboys after Texans win on MNF

Pettiness is always an odd look for professional athletes.

There's nothing wrong with a social team taking aim at a fallen opponent. The Texans executed a textbook troll of the Cowboys on social media after the win. However, Schultz taking a victory lap after a largely healthy Houston team but up on a Dallas squad that was down several starters and led by its backup quarterback is not the flex he thinks it is.

It seems Schultz is still bitter about his Cowboys departure. He walked in 2023 free agency and signed a modest one-year deal with the Texans. He parlayed that into a three-year, $36 million contract with $23.5 million guaranteed in March before free agency.

Schultz was very critical of Dallas' culture after signing with Houston, particularly about the fan presence behind the scenes due to AT&T Stadium tours. Other players, including some current Cowboys, also view the tours as a distraction, but Schultz's remarks felt personal.

"There are people literally going on tours while you're lifting in the weight room," Schultz said. "And they've got like a … one-way mirror for people to like look at. It's literally — it's a zoo. There are people tapping on the glass trying to get people's attention as they're doing power cleans or whatnot."

Schultz's comment about people "tapping on the class" has been debunked by several Cowboys reporters, including Kyle Youmans and Patrik Walker of the team's official website.

For whatever reason, Schultz has not shied away from taking shots at his former team. While there's nothing wrong with taking Monday's matchup personally, taking a victory lap after defeating one of the worst teams in the NFL is a weird look. It was obvious before Monday that Houston is the best team in Texas.
