Cowboys still not getting much respect in final Super Bowl 61 odds ahead of Week 1

After seven months of agony without NFL football that matters (my sincere apologies to all who actually enjoy the preseason), the 2026 regular season is finally upon us, and the Dallas Cowboys are set to kick off the new campaign with a Week 1 matchup against the rival New York Giants in prime time on Sunday Night Football.

It's been more than three decades now since America's Team last won the Super Bowl, or even made an appearance in the Big Game or the NFC Championship Game, for that matter.

And while Brian Schottenheimer's squad unquestionably looks far better than the team that went 7-10-1 a season ago after a strong offseason, particularly on the defensive side of the football, NFL oddsmakers aren't overly confident that the Cowboys will hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in 31 years come February, as they barely crack the top half of the Super Bowl 61 odds heading into the start of the new season.

Here's a look at the odds for all 32 teams to win Super Bowl 61, which will be contested on February 14, 2027, from SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Also included are the odds for each team to represent their respective conference in the title game.

As you can see, at +2500, the Cowboys have the 16th-best odds from an overall standpoint and the eighth-best odds among NFC teams, trailing in the latter category behind the Los Angeles Rams, the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Lions, the San Francisco 49ers, the Green Bay Packers, and the Chicago Bears.

Of those seven teams, Dallas plays five of them, with Detroit and Chicago being the two exceptions. They also square off with two of the eight AFC teams listed ahead of them, those being the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans.

Despite those eight challenging matchups (there are obviously two with Philly), for those who buy into strength of schedule, the Cowboys have the 13th-easiest schedule, as their opponents in 2026 went 142-146-1 during the 2025 campaign, giving them an overall winning percentage of .493.

While some might think Dallas deserves to be higher on the odds list, this is pretty much where the team has stood for the last seven months.

In the immediate aftermath of the Seattle Seahawks' victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60, we took a look at the way-too-early odds for Super Bowl 61, and at that time, the Cowboys sat in solo 17th overall at +3500.

We took another look following the initial wave of free agency in mid-March, and while their odds had improved to +3000, they were still only tied for 16th overall with the Cincinnati Bengals. And while their odds improved yet again just after the draft in late April to the same +2500 they are now, which only moved them into a tie for 15th with the Bears. To be clear, they've never gotten past any of the teams mentioned above, the closest being this tie with Chicago.

These odds obviously don't mean a thing, but they're certainly enjoyable to peruse through at times, and we'll likely do so again around the midway point of the regular season. For now, though, the time for preseason odds and predictions is about at an end, as football is finally back.
