Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens have been in a flow state to start training camp, picking up right where they left off last season. Another high-scoring campaign is surely afoot for the Dallas Cowboys' offense, but it remains to be seen who will join Lamb, Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, and KaVontae Turpin on the 53-man roster.
As such, the WR5 (and WR6) battle was one of the sneakiest storylines entering camp, and it hasn't disappointed. Camp is barely a week old, but the competition has already taken a surprising turn thanks to undrafted rookie Camden Brown.
What better way to leave a mark than with a one-handed grab in the corner of the end zone? Brown also showed impressive awareness and body control, dragging his toes just inside the boundary to finish the catch (h/t Joseph Hoyt, Dallas Morning News).

The unpadded-practice caveat doesn't apply here. Brown jostled with cornerback Trikweze Bridges before creating separation at the perfect moment. Was it a play he should have made? Eh. The degree of difficulty was outrageous, so take nothing away from the 22-year-old.
Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram affirmed that Brown "has been one of the UDFAs making a strong early impression."
Another clip from practice showed Brown making a nice grab on the run from Joe Milton. It's a play Brown should make 10 times out of 10, but Brown still showcased strong hands by reaching across his body to secure the pass.
If he wasn't before, Brown should be on your radar. Consider a message sent to Jonathan Mingo, Traeshon Holden, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jordan Hudson, and the rest of the WR room.
Camden Brown must contribute on special teams to make the Cowboys' 53-man roster
Brown was among the Cowboys' initial wave of signings immediately following the 2026 NFL Draft. He struggled to catch on at Auburn before transferring to Georgia Southern, where he broke out to the tune of 65 receptions for 1,079 yards and 14 (!) touchdowns in 13 games.
It's encouraging to see Brown make an early impression, but it'll only matter if he proves he can help on special teams. That's the reality for fringe receivers. The Cowboys aren't going to carry a fifth or sixth wideout who can't contribute in the kicking, punt, or return game, no matter how talented he is as a pass catcher.
That's the reality of being in the same WR room as CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Ryan Flournoy.
Traeshon Holden learned that lesson the hard way last summer. He seemed to make noise at every practice, but he was still left off the 53 because he didn't offer enough on special teams. As a pass catcher, Holden had done enough to earn a spot. Ultimately, though, he lost out because he couldn't provide the extra value required from a back-end receiver.
Time will tell if Brown follows a similar path, but he's passed every test to this point. He's officially someone to watch in the WR battle.
