The Dallas Cowboys' penchant for making flashy moves, especially as it pertains to the quarterback position. Dak Prescott is the unquestioned leader in that room, but Jerry Jones may be interested in landing someone with franchise quarterback potential in Texas Tech's Brendan Sorsby via the NFL's supplemental draft.
Just days after Sorsby, who was found to have placed over $90,000 in bets (including those on his own team at Indiana), was ruled ineligible for the supplemental draft and was suspended a pitiful two games in 2026, he and Texas Tech are parting ways. The Cowboys may have some interest in Sorsby despite the fact that his price might be too steep for many.
NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, who previously said that any team without a completely locked-in quarterback room should at least do their homework on Sorsby, declared that the "over-under" for those who like to follow Sorsby's lead and view it in a gambling context is "right on the second to third-round border." Pelissero called it "hard to imagine" that Sorsby gets past the third round.
Cowboys may need to use second-round supplemental draft pick for Brendan Sorsby
Sorsby, who transferred from Indiana to Cincinnati before his move to Texas Tech, likely would have been the third quarterback off the board behind Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson in the 2026 class. A strong year at Tech might have been enough to take him from a fringe first-rounder to a lock.
Sorsby's mobility, very strong arm, and willingness to test defenses deep all make him an attractive prospect, and his success despite a poor Cincinnati offensive line is one of the main reasons the Red Raiders believed they were landing a star. Dallas would certainly have the structure for him to thrive.
For the Cowboys, Joe Milton and Sam Howell are fighting to be the long-term backup behind Prescott. Jones has always been willing to commit a good chunk of resources to that position despite Prescott's success, and Sorsby would be in line with that way of thinking. The issue is with the compensation, as using a second or third-round pick may imply they expect him to be a part of their long-term solution.
Using a Top 100 pick on Sorsby would be more trouble than it is worth, as it would only create more noise behind Prescott and deprive the Cowboys of the capital they need to continue taking this new-look defense from good to great as Schottenheimer's build continues.
