Although the Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been widely celebrated, from their personnel upgrades to great assistant coaching hires to a mere lack of drama that is unprecedented for America's Team, it is not as if the rest of the NFC East hasn't been somewhat keeping pace with them.
The Philadelphia Eagles have lost quite a bit but also replenished their roster in several key areas, the Washington Commanders are healthier and beefed up their defensive line, and the New York Giants, for as lowly as they've been in recent years, feel like a new team with direction under John Harbaugh.
But that doesn't mean that the Cowboys' divisional foes are above criticism. This isn't the AFC West or NFC West, where undisputed powers live. And the Giants could soon make a fatal mistake that Dallas fans know all too well; one that should be celebrated by every person in this fanbase.
Giants work out former Cowboys free agent bust LB Kenneth Murray
According to the NFL's transaction wire, New York worked out linebacker Kenneth Murray on Monday, just before training camp begins. Yes, that Kenneth Murray, who once looked like a "doesn't work but could be fun to fix!" piece on the Cowboys' defense after a cheap trade brought him to Dallas.
In his lone year at The Star, however, Murray showed exactly why the Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans both gave up on him in short order. He struggled tremendously for the Cowboys during the 2025 NFL season, which makes it all the more hilarious that the Giants are interested.
New York already lost Bobby Okereke and a handful of other linebackers this offseason, but they replaced them with top pick Arvell Reese, savvy veteran Tremaine Edmunds and promising late-rounder Jack Kelly. Adding Murray to the mix, honestly, would drag the group down.
Murray doesn't exactly have extensive special teams experience to help the Giants out, and it remains unclear what situation Harbaugh would call on him for during a game. On an obvious running down? Murray struggled in that realm last year. When an opponent is going to pass? He struggled there, too.
Cowboys' linebacker room is so much better off without Kenneth Murray
Dallas' linebacker corps was atrocious last season without a healthy DeMarvion Overshown last year, as they didn't bring back Murray, Jack Sanborn or Logan Wilson. They chose instead to sign Curtis Robinson, trade for Dee Winters and to convert third-round edge rusher Jaishawn Barham to off-ball.
That speaks to just how little faith the Cowboys' front office had that Murray could be a plus player for them during the 2026 NFL season, even without a set of established options already in the building. If Murray does end up signing with the Giants, then Brian Schottenheimer will be licking his chops.
Imagine Tyler Booker and Tyler Smith getting to the next level with Javonte Williams behind them, and the linebacker is... Kenneth Murray. Picture Dak Prescott dropping back to pass and seeing Jake Ferguson in a one-on-one with... Kenneth Murray.
Maybe Cowboys fans should wait to see how the linebacker corps looks in Dallas this year before dunking on Harbaugh and Co. for an offseason workout. But the idea of the Giants trying to turn the Cowboys' trash into their treasure is just a bit funny and way too on brand for a squad that isn't even New York's team, let alone America's.
