That was hands down the best game Matt Ebeflus ever coached for the Chicago Bears. Oh, that's right, Eberflus is the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator.
You wouldn't know it based on what transpired in Week 3, as the Bears' previously floundering offense torched Eberflus' hapless defense to the tune of 31 points and nearly 400 yards. And it shouldn't last for much longer if the defense doesn't get it turned around.
There are plenty of stats that prove the Cowboys have the worst defense in football, but this goes beyond the box score. Eberflus' unit has become a national punchline. Everyone knows Dallas' defense is a joke. Sunday's performance was rock-bottom, and it officially lit Eberflus' seat on fire.
Cowboys DC Matt Eberflus' seat is scalding hot after Week 3 disaster
There is nothing enjoyable about calling for someone's job. And we haven't gone that far. Eberflus deserves a couple more games to get things turned around.
It also can't be overstated that the defense traded away Micah Parsons before the season. You have to think Eberflus thought he'd have Parsons wreaking havoc off the edge when he took the job. The pass rush has been nonexistent without Parsons, but the defense is also without DaRon Bland and DeMarvion Overshown, and Trevon Diggs is playing banged up and struggling mightily as a result.
Eberflus was dealt an unfortunate hand, but he is trying to force square pegs into round holes. His personnel, however talent-deficient, clearly isn't equipped to play zone coverage on every down.
Between cornerbacks playing 10 yards off on 3rd-and-short, D.J. Moore standing free in the end zone without a defender within 10 yards of him, and allowing poorly executed flea-flickers to result in huge gains, Cowboys fans are out of patience after Sunday's debacle.

The Cowboys' defense has enough coverage bust in three games to fill an entire season. They've already given up 12 pass plays of 25 yards or more, including 11 (!) in the last two games.
The Bears' offense was stuck in such a rut before Sunday that the mainstream media was starting to question if new head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams were a good match. They didn't break a sweat on Sunday. Eberflus got obliterated by the same QB he couldn't win games with.
Eberflus was a bad fit for the Cowboys’ personnel when he was hired. The front office deserves to wear that, but Eberflus deserves enormous blame for failing to adjust to what his players do well.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. But this has gone beyond insanity. This defense could fix Carson Wentz right now. The Cowboys have to send Eberflus packing if it continues.
