Dallas Cowboys fans have officially emerged victorious in an objectively pointless battle with team owner Jerry Jones. After previously rebuffing DeMarvion Overshown from taking No. 0 from Rowdy the mascot, Jones has granted Overshown permission to embrace his famed "Agent 0" moniker.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Overshown is switching to the No. 0 for the 2025 season, and likely the foreseeable future. Overshown is now the first player in the history of the franchise to don the elusive number.

The NFL banned No. 0 back in 1973, but that was rescinded in 2021 along with several other jersey restrictions.

Needless to say Overshown is the perfect candidate to buck the trend. Not only is he a transcendent talent, but he has long identified as "Agent 0" on the field dating back to his time as a Texas Longhorn, where he switched from No. 31 after converting from safety to linebacker.

The Cowboys have been AWOL in free agency the last few weeks so this news was much-needed. While awesome, it doesn't quite compare to the latest update on Overshown's injury.

Cowboys' DeMarvion Overshown making great progress in recovery from knee injury

Per Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, Overshown is "progressing well" in his knee rehab and there's optimism within the organization that he could return around the halfway point of the 2025 season.

Cowboys reporter Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is hearing similar rumblings about Overshown's recovery. While Harris didn't disclose a specific timeline, he noted Overshown is trending to return "at some point" next season.

Given the severity of his injury, it was initially feared that Overshown would miss the entire 2025 season. The former third-round pick suffered a torn ACL, MCL and PCL after a Bengals offensive lineman capsized his knee. It was the definition of a catastrophic injury and the timing (it happened in Week 14) only worsened Overshown's outlook.

While nothing is confirmed and Overshown may start the season on injured reserve, it would be a massive win for Dallas if he takes the field at all in 2025.

Overshown announced himself to the nation against the Giants on Thanksgiving when he batted a Drew Lock screen pass to himself and returned it for a touchdown. He was virtually unstoppable when unleashed as a blitzer and brings a speed and downhill-thumping element from the second level that the Cowboys' defense has needed for years.

If Overshown can stay healthy, there is nothing stopping him from becoming a star. Regardless of when he returns this season, he'll likely have one of the NFL's top-selling jerseys after converting to Agent 0.
