Dallas Cowboys owner and de facto general manager Jerry Jones has officially gone full Howie Roseman to trade for George Pickens. In an effort to help out CeeDee Lamb from being double teamed, some saw this move as being controversial.
Of course, Jones has signed other controversial players like Terrell Owens, the only exception being Owens already being established as one of the best receivers of all-time. Former longtime Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis was one of the first to react to it, given his on-field spat with Pickens last season.
This has been a strong offseason for Dallas, but given Pickens' past behavior, this is definitely a risk for the locker room. The trade has the Cowboys' bitter rivals steaming with anger, solely because the receiving room for Pittsburgh is now at a loss.
Cowboys' George Pickens trade takes major toll on Steelers WR room
Dak Prescott now has Pickens, Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson as his main pass-catchers. With this boost in the WR room, there are talks of Prescott becoming an MVP candidate.
D.K. Metcalf has now gotten the short end of the stick, as he represented a major upgrade from Pittsbrugh's lack of weapons from last season. Now, the Steelers are back to square one.
Mike Tomlin's teams have consistently flirted with playoff contention but for the past few seasons they've been lacking offensive consistency. This receiving room shows that this upcoming season will not be any different.
Jones has finally fulfilled a once-empty promise by actually going 'all-in.' After a blank 2024 season with no identity on offense, followed by Prescott's season-ending hamstring injury, the Pickens trade is an example of Jones staying true on his promise, finally.
Regardless of Pickens having a history of on-field issues, this is a great trade on paper. Even though fans were looking forward to an Amari Cooper reunion, Pickens could be a phenomenal help for the Cowboys by answering their much needed offensive problem.
The fact that Steelers fans were left devastated alone proves Dallas won this blockbuster.
