The free agent frenzy has skidded to a halt in recent weeks, which has brought the NFL Draft into focus. It feels like the offseason just started, but the draft is just three weeks away. Before long, we will know what the Dallas Cowboys do with the No. 12 overall pick.
The Cowboys are doing their due-diligence on all of the top prospects. While they have a higher pick than fans are accustomed to, their list of 30 visits is much more reassuring compared to previous years.
Like any draft, Dallas will have to pivot based on what the teams ahead of them do. While several players on their board will be gone by the 12th pick, they are picking high enough to still have their choice of the litter.
While the hated 49ers pick right before the Cowboys at No. 11 overall, what the Giants do with the third overall pick is just as intriguing. Smokescreens are prevalent during draft season, but it seems New York is zeroing in on two prospects in particular weeks out from draft night.
Giants telegraphing plans for No. 3 pick is comedy gold for Cowboys fans
Per Adam Schefter, the Giants sent a whopping 14 members of their organization to Boulder on Friday to watch wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders at Colorado's Pro Day. The list included head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.
The Browns, who own the No. 2 pick, sent 11 members to the showcase.

It sure seems like the Giants want one of Hunter or Sanders.
With Cam Ward shaping up to go first overall to the Titans, one of Hunter or Sanders will be available at No. 3. The best-case scenario for Cowboys fans is New York drafting Sanders, whom many draft experts and analysts do not regard as a first-round pick.

Hunter, on the other hand, has the potential to be a superstar at cornerback or wide receiver. It remains to be seen which position Hunter will play the most snaps, but he will be a two-way player regardless. Dallas does not want to see Hunter twice a year for the next decade.
Luck may be on the Cowboys' side in that regard. Per Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the growing belief is Hunter, not Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter, is the "favorite" to go second overall to the Browns. Carter had been the favorite to end up in Cleveland throughout the draft process.
Does that mean the Giants would simply pivot to Carter? Not necessarily.
Defensive line is arguably the strength of their roster. As far as the EDGE position, they traded for Brian Burns last offseason, have former No. 5 pick Kayvon Thibodeaux and signed former Cowboy Chauncey Golston. Carter would be a great pick, but he's not what NY needs.
The Browns taking Hunter second would push the door wide open for the Giants to draft Sanders third overall. That would be just what the doctor ordered for Dallas after their rivals signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson to compete for the starting job.
