The Dallas Cowboys falling short in the playoffs and stumbling to a 7-10 record last season has taken the fun out of laughing at division rivals.
However, the NFL Draft provides a perfect platform to laugh at a rival's expense. The New York Giants are the gift that keeps on giving in that regard.
Equipped the No. 3 overall pick, the Giants are primed to take Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter, assuming the Browns take Travis Hunter second overall. Carter was once upon a time Cowboys fans' dream prospect when Dallas' season looked like it was going off the rails.
Ever prone to dysfunction, it's not written in stone that Big Blue will take Carter. In fact, it seems New York has made a giant mistake (pun intended) that could upend their entire draft.
Giants leaking interest in Jaxon Dart is comedy gold for Cowboys fans
The Giants taking Ole Miss quarterback Jaxon Dart at No. 3 is now a real possibility after general manager Joe Schoen's son shared a highlight reel of Dart on his Instagram late Wednesday night. He quickly made his account private, but not before fans could screenshot the post. This has now morphed into a monstrous pre-draft rumor.
Dart is one of myriad late risers in this class. The former Rebel is now expected to be the second quarterback taken after Cam Ward, with reports hinting he won't make it past the Saints at No. 9 overall.
The Giants spent a lot of time with Colorado's Shedeur Sanders throughout the draft process, but that interest seemingly has waned leading up to Thursday night. ESPN's Dan Graziano is hearing that New York prefers Dart to all other non-Cam Ward quarterbacks.
MUST-READ: Cowboys' RB plan could get ugly fast if draft rumor proves true
Several last-minute mocks have New York trading back into round one to take Dart. However, if Schoen and Brian Daboll don't think Dart will last that long, they might just take him with the third pick. Needless to say that would send the draft into absolute chaos.
The Patriots, long expected to take LSU tackle Will Campbell, would suddenly have to choose between Campbell and Carter at No. 4 overall. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
It's possible the post from Schoen's son was an intentional smokescreen. That would be pretty diabolical, but it is peak lying season.
Assuming it was a mistake, though, the Giants have fully revealed their affinity for Dart. If a team ends up stealing him, this will go down as an all-time draft blunder.
