2. Chicago Bears

When David Montgomery first came onto the scene for the Chicago Bears, he looked primed for stardom. Following a decent rookie campaign, he put up 1,070 yards and had eight touchdowns on the ground as well as 54 receptions for 438 yards and two more touchdowns in 2020.

His efficiency declined in 2021 but with Matt Nagy finally out as head coach in 2022, there were hopes he could get back on track. He did improve his yards per carry from 3.8 to 4.0 but overall, wasn’t very impressive.

There’s a lot that goes into this, including a poor offensive line and the fact that there were no receivers to back the safeties up, but it might still lead to Montgomery looking for a new home this offseason.

Chicago will be able to rely on Khalil Herbert more this coming year as he had 731 yards while averaging 5.7 yards per rush. However, he hasn’t been the focal guy in the offense before and offers very little as a pass-catcher.

With Justin Fields still trying to get it figured out in the NFL, it makes sense for Chicago to keep weapons around him in the backfield, and a pass-catching running back is a young quarterback’s best friend.

Adding Pollard would give them two players who can rip off the long run while also giving them someone who can make things happen when it comes to throwing the ball to the back. That could help their offense tremendously this season.
