CeeDee Lamb one of three dark horses to lead league in receiving yards
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will have a lot of weight on his shoulders in the 2022 season. After the departure of Amari Cooper and the fact that Michael Gallup will likely miss a few games at the start of the season, the Oklahoma product is now being looked at as the clear WR1 for the Cowboys. Some wonder if that’s too much pressure for a third-year player. Others, like his quarterback, feel he is ready for the challenge.
Bleacher Report seems to think that the Cowboys wideout can have a breakout year as a WR1, too. In an article listing the top 3 “dark horses” to lead every major offensive category, writer Alex Kay deemed Lamb one of three NFL receivers who could shock the league and lead the receiving yards stat category. Kay knows that the usual suspects like Davante Adams and Cooper Kupp are certainly set to have another stellar season, but wanted to name some under-the-radar players who may also end up leading certain statistical categories.
Aside from Lamb, Kay believed that New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas and Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews could be sneaky favorites for receiving yards as well. Here’s what Kay specifically had to say about the Cowboys receiver:
"“CeeDee Lamb has put himself on the map as one of the NFL’s top receivers early in his career. He could further separate from the pack with a huge third season. The Dallas Cowboys star is the clear-cut No. 1 option for quarterback Dak Prescott this year. Now the unquestioned focal point of Dallas’ passing attack, the 23-year-old is in line to shatter that mark.”"
Bleacher Report names Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb as a dark horse to lead the league in receiving yards in 2022
Lamb already improved upon his first-year stats last year in even fewer games. In 2021, the receiver collected 1,102 yards, six touchdowns, and 13.9 yards per reception in just 13 games started. That happened while competing with Gallup, Cooper, and Cedrick Wilson. Imagine what Lamb can do with more targets and less competition.
Although the young receiver certainly has to clean up his drops and improve in some areas, he truly has the opportunity to earn himself a massive paycheck in 2023. Luckily for him, Dak Prescott is healthy for the first time in a while this offseason, which means the two have already been putting in work together to get prepared for next season. If he can stay relatively mistake-free and get open for Prescott’s passes, the Cowboys’ offense will thrive next season.
It’s a lot of pressure to put on a third-year player, but Lamb seems ready for the challenge. But whether the third-year receiver will lead the league in receptions is a whole other story. Even if Lamb improves to 1,300 yards, which would be an amazing achievement, that would put him over 600 yards behind what Kupp achieved in 2021. Regardless of whether he leads stat categories are not, the Cowboys are counting on Lamb to have another impressive year and this time as the leader of the wide receiver corps
